My Big Eyed Boys and Girls and Cats and Dogs!

I am a collector.
My collections start by themselves.
I believe they have a life of their own.

♥♥♥
I find something I like, then maybe months later, I find another that matches.
I put them together and fall in love with them as a pair ....
......a collection is born!

♥♥♥

The picture above is of one of my treasured books.
Its by Wayne Hemmingway (another of my design hero's) its called "Just above the mantelpiece" or mass market masterpieces.
Here are a few pics.....from the book

As you can see its all about those pictures from the late 50's into the 60's
"big eyed Pictures" as they are now known

We had this one when I was little!
I always loved her pull along poodle! it bought back so many memories when I saw it.

The images are sublime because they are all photographed on vintage/retro wallpaper

This picture is on the inside front cover, it sets the tone of the book and I love it!
Look at that stripey dress....too delicious for words

.
These are my own pictures, they have not been restored and at present are in their "natural beauty"
However I do have plans for them when our sitting room is decorated...

My 'talented other half'' bought me this set of three for Christmas.

" Beatnik Boy" below is my latest find....

You can see how he matches other things I love from this era, glass and of course the fabric!
Oh the Barkcloth fabric!!
but thats another story and another collection...
Are you a collector?
Happy Thursday to you all!
.....and of couse bestest from me

    2. Delusions of grandeur there (Bronte occupying a suite of rooms...) Delighted to send on some fabric - my email is jennywarner@totalise.co.uk. Might not emerge of a few days but will pop some in the post. Cripes - worried now in case I can't find it in all those very empty bare rooms....

  5. Oh! My goodness...!
Back to the 60's...As l write this, l'm singing...
'Memories Are Made Of This'. Recorded both by Dean Martin and Dave King...1956. And, my Mums favourite..Val Doonican in 1967....!
The 60's were, and, always voted the best decade ever...And, they, were, without doubt...(Deep Sigh).

These framed pics are absolutely wonderful Miss Daisy...
Love the pussy-cat and doggie, there eyes....lovely....!
And, the three little children...Ah! The little boy with his Golly-Wog...ooooops! Sorry! Jolly-Golly....! Still have mine...Given to me..Aged five...!
Don't know about anyone else...But, l can't let go of anything, l love....l've tried, even the smallest, worthless thing...If it means something to me.....It stays....! Bless! :).

No sadly that is not me although its a fab and glam photo!
It is from the inside cover of the book! I would recommend the book highly if you collect the prints....
We used to have a lot of Lynch and tretchikoff too, but they were too big so I sold them years ago.
Now when I see what they are worth I wish I hadn't I had some really rare ones too!

  11. Woah, such fabulous images. Thank you for sharing them. I like to collect vintage sheets, ladybird books, puffin books, broken bits of crockery from the beach. I used to collect more but something's gotta give ! xx

  12. My sister had some of those in her room. I collect all sorts of oddments, but these days, I seem to like Danish teak Viking ornaments and they just keep popping up in my rounds of the charity shops. I also collect what O call 'orphans'...things that no one in their right mind would bring home. Today it was a hot pink stuffed elephant from the 1970's that needed me. I should not be allowed out of the house unsupervised...

    Hope

  15. my friend treated me to An Evening with Wayne Hemmingway and Peter Blake at the V&A last year and it was really interesting listening to them chatter away. I didn't know previously that his father had been a professional wrestler on TV!

They alaways say with antique dealers that 2 items makes a collection and by the time you've got 3 it's time to sell up!

  22. Oh these pictures make my heart flutter, just beautiful!

I have a "Tina" by JH Lynch on my craft room wall. It took me ages to hunt her down! The image takes me back to my childhood and my Gran's living room where she had one she bought from Woolies over the fireplace and completed the look with orange 70's wallpaper and a Dralon sofa! :) xx
